Since a pipe organ embraces so many disciplines, building such an instrument is no simple undertaking. The team assembled by Lynn Dobson represents hundreds of years of collective experience. The long tenure of so many of our employees and their ability to work as a team with a common goal is essential, since the most perfect designs are nothing if they cannot be realized.

About half of the crew are organbuilders and musicians who have worked in other shops before coming to work in Lake City. As draftsmen, voicers and pipemakers, they have brought varied organbuilding experiences. Other members of the team have come from diverse backgrounds such as metalworking, cabinetmaking, furniture restoration and the commercial arts. Each brings his or her own special talents, skills and personality to a collegial atmosphere where distinctive work is created. These different yet complementary backgrounds have contributed to the creation of a team of organbuilders with a mature direction in their work.

It has been the firm’s goal to constantly challenge its employees to learn new skills and technologies so that each person continues to grow as a craftsman and organbuilder. It is this process which makes each new project exciting and fresh, one which encourages long-term commitment to the shop.

Because a healthy industry is good for all of organbuilding, Dobson Pipe Organ Builders supports the professional organizations of the trade and encourages its employees to be active participants as well. The firm is a member of the International Society of Organbuilders and the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America (APOBA). The firm served as President of APOBA from 1985 to 1988.
