The dedication of Op. 81 at Kenilworth Union Church in Kenilworth, Illinois, took place during morning services on Sunday, 9 November 2003. Organist Margaret Kemper played works of Bach, Langlais, Pachelbel, Franck and Duruflé.

In what's probably a first for us, Dobson organs were seen on the covers of two major organ magazines in the same month. Op. 78 at St. John United Methodist in Augusta, Ga., was featured on the cover of the November 2003 number of The American Organist, while Op. 75, at Los Angeles' Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, was pictured on the The Diapason.


10 August 2003
The consecration of our Op. 78, built for St. John United Methodist Church in Augusta, Georgia, occurred today at 3:00 p.m. United Methodist District Superintendent Jane Brooks led the service of consecration. The St. John Choir, under the direction of Jamie Council Garvey with guest organist Alvin Blount, offered a musical service of celebration and thanksgiving.

We’re pleased to welcome Donny Hobbs as the newest employee of the shop. Born in Colorado and a recent resident of Oklahoma, he graduated in 2003 from Drake University, where he studied organ with Carl Staplin and ’cello with Julie Sturm. He will be involved with voicing, tuning and general organbuilding tasks.

The blessing of our new instrument for the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels took place on today at 5:30 p.m. Cardinal Roger Mahony, Archbishop of Los Angeles, presided at a service of Evening Prayer, which was followed by an organ recital by Samuel S. Soria, Cathedral Organist.

Easter Sunday Liturgy from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels in Los Angeles was broadcast on NBC affiliates across the nation.

The Iowa Association of Business and Industry has named Dobson Pipe Organ Builders to the first annual Iowa Commerce Top 100. We share the list with other, slightly better known Iowa firms such as Maytag Appliances, Pella Windows and Winnebago Motor Homes.


3 February 2003
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lynn Dobson’s mother Muriel on 3 February 2003. She was 80. Her funeral was held on Friday, 7 February 2003 at the Lake City Union Church, and she was interred next to her husband Elmer in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery, Glidden, Iowa. Muriel served as secretary and bookkeeper in the early days of the company.


13 January 2003
The Los Angeles Chapter of the American Guild of Organists sponsored “An Evening at the New Cathedral”, hosted by the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, home of our Op. 75. Lynn Dobson and Msgr. Kevin Kostelnik spoke, and Cathedral Organist Sal Soria demonstrated the instrument for the 400 attendees.
