After many years of constant use, the Van Daalen organ in Schmitt Organ Recital Hall was showing its age. The mechanical action was unreliable, there was no combination action, and the tonal design of the organ did not support a broad range of literature.

As part of its work on the organ, Dobson built a completely new mechanical key action and electric stop action, enlarged the manual key compass from 56 to 58 notes, provided new pipework to expand the organ’s capabilities, completely revoiced the existing pipework, and repaired the windchests, wind system and those pipes that were retained.
